June 12: I’ll work for your second term, Tinubu promises Buhari

A national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said President Muhammadu Buhari deserved a second term and that he would work for his victory in the 2019 presidential election.

While highlighting some of Buhari’s achievements, Tinubu claimed that Nigerians are no longer paying for darkness, giving an indication that electricity supply has become stable under the present administration.

He also lauded Buhari for the school feeding programme, a component of the government’s Social Investment Programme.

A 300-Level Computer Science undergraduate of the Olabisi Onabanjo  University, Ago Iwoye, Adebisi Oriade and his girlfriend, Julia Imaga, also a diploma student at the same institution, have been allegedly killed by two members of Aiye confraternity, Muritala Babatunde and Taiwo Razak. Finally, Buhari to sign 2018 budget on Wednesday

President Muhammadu Buhari will sign the 2018 Appropriation Act into law on Wednesday. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed this to our correspondent on the telephone on Monday. “I can confirm to you that the President will sign the budget into law at midday on Wednesday,” the presidential spokesman said. Our correspondent further learnt that the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council that normally holds every Wednesday will not hold on that day. The meeting usually holds inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja at 11am on Wednesdays. It was not clear as of the time of filing this report if the meeting was put off because of the signing of the budget. Nine corps members drown in Taraba river

Nine Youth Corps members currently serving in Taraba State, on Saturday, drowned in the River Mayo-Selbe, in the Gashaka Local Government Area of the state. The Police Public Relations Officer, Taraba State Police Command, ASP David Missal, who confirmed the death of nine out of the 22 corps members who were swimming in the said river, said seven corpses had so far been recovered from the river. “Information at our disposal revealed that 22 youth corps members currently serving in the state were on a picnic in the River Mayo-Selbe, in the Gashaka LGA on Saturday when the incident happened. “We were made to understand that while they were swimming in the river, there was a sudden upsurge in the volume of water which swept them away. “Nine of them drowned while others managed to escape. “We have so far recovered seven corpses, while the search for the two remaining corpses is still in progress,” he said.
